Here's how to make it a Bootable DVD:
Download latest vLite: http://nlite.boot-land.net/vlite/vLite-1.1.1.installer.exe
Copy contents of "Windows.Server.2008.x64.iso" to a folder.
Open vLite. Browse to folder with ISO contents (windows installation files).
A screen will pop up with 6 choices, choose whether you want Standard, Enterprise, Datacenter, with or w/o Hyper-V (CORE is without)
Click Next. At task selection screen ONLY select "Bootable ISO"
Click Next. At bottom right, click "Make ISO". Save it to disk.
You now have a bootable copy of Server 2008 x64.

Testet it in VMWare - WORKING!
No Viruses, Trojans...
To make it bootable use MagicIso and an ISO File of Vista. Extract with Magic ISO the BootInformation from the Vista ISO and than implement it in the Server 2008 iso. Its easier than using vlite and very fast.

What is the default username and password to login with?
It just shows Other User, then asks me for a username and password.
When I try Administrator, it wants me to enter a password, then create a new one.
The system randomly reboots during the 2nd part of the installation.
I did the vLite process and booted into outside of any operating system.

You need to create a password for that Administrator account. It has to contain uppercase, lowercase, and numbers. So:

Is anyone ever going to make a crack for this?
Since this is on the same base like vista wouldn't it be possible to copy activation files from vista and then use vista activation crack ? This method was used before with Vista RTM and Vista RC2 activation files. If someone succeeds with this please write a comment here and say which files need to be replaced !
If other users want to download this torrent, so be it, they just have to fix the .ISO to make it bootable. But if you?re not offering new (like a crack or serial), then others might as well download straight from the source (and have a good bootable ISO to work with).

I have tried the following the bypass activation and it really really seems to work. In a nutshell its just about disabling a service and deleting 3 files. I have tried it over and over and I cannot fault it! It's perfect, even updates work!!!!

The three file by-pass method seems to "work".. but on the lower right corner of the desktop it shows briefly the text "This copy Microsoft Windows is not genuine" when logging off.
In addition to my previous post: I put a background image to my desktop and the text "This copy of Windows is not genuine." is now permanently on. Without background image it can only be seen briefly when logging off.

To use 64 bit OS in VMware you need running a 64 Bit OS and you will need 64bit version of vmware.

Downloaded, did the Vlite program fix to make it bootable and it works.
I used that no crack activation link someone posted and it does work, sure "this is not a genuine windows" warning flashes in the bottom right of the corner on shutdown, but you can hardly see it and nothing is affected. Updates look like they work as well.
This is better then Vista as a desktop, uses about 400mb less ram on my machine. Wish someone would take the time to crack it to no activation or key needed like on the other Vista versions around here, but this will work till then.
On a side note, you have to go into the server management and services to enable wireless lan. So if you have a laptop you might want to consider that. There are guides out there so google it.

Call me dumb but why not just download this directly from Microsoft? You get the latest version guaranteed free from any nasty bits and therefore, peace of mind.
If you want to hack it after the trial, which can be extended legally BTW, then there are plenty of tools to do that.

I have tried MagicISO to make this disk bootable but it didn't work. I tried using the boot files from Windows 7 (don't have, or believe in, Win Vista).
Also, I tried installing Win 7 Ultimate x64, then initiate the installer (after writing the ISO to disk). At some point the installer restarts and the system fails. Any ideas on how to get this disk bootable so that I can install Win Server?
